Read the First Few Pages of The Three Beliefs of Ego Inside 👀

Peace Be With You Reader,

Chapter 1 - The Return to Unity

“Beneath the surface diversity of this world, there is an underlying unity that connects all beings. Seek that unity, and you will find true peace.” – Ken Wilber

However you wound up with this book in your hands, one fact stands clear: You have already begun the process of transcending the ego. How do I know this to be certain? Simply because no one is interested in reading a book about transcending the ego while they are still fully identified with it.

In the quiet corridors of your inner Being, a subtle yet profound shift has already commenced, likely unbeknownst to you. You have begun the initial phases of disentangling your sense of self from the ego. This is a very subtle and gradual process that might elude your conscious recognition for many years. Nevertheless, your interest in this book represents an intrinsic yearning for freedom deep within your Soul. The very act of being drawn to these words is not a mere coincidence, but a clear indication that you now stand at the threshold of transformation. In other words: You are ready to be free from suffering.

This may appear to overstate the obvious, as this is inarguably the greatest desire of every human being alive. However, what may not be so obvious is that the yearning to be free from suffering is, at its core, a desire to realize your True Self. The only reason to desire transcendence of a “false self” is for the realization of a True Self.

Your false self is, of course, the ego. Ego is the sum total of all the personal identities, concepts, and beliefs you have accumulated through your life. The ego convinces us of our limitations and our separateness, painting a mental picture of ourselves as finite beings, confined by time and space. The ego crafts the mental narrative of individuality, causing us to feel distinct and isolated from the universe around us. Yet the ego is but a construct, a ceaseless bombardment of mental projections that have no actual reality — they only seem real for the fact that they constantly appear, much as an image on a movie screen appears to show a living scene of people and places when in fact it is only light being projected from a machine in the back of the room. This is a perfect metaphor for the ego.

The ego’s movement is extremely difficult for the intellect to catch, as it is exceptionally good at pretending to be you. It is operating all the time, but because you mistake it to be yourself, you usually do not recognize it until hindsight affords itself. This is why the ego was ultimately designed for the purpose of sharpening, strengthening, and expanding awareness. It is a very skilled copycat. Throughout this book, we will examine the ego’s fundamental nature and, more important, why the ego possesses this nature. The path to understanding the ego begins, believe it or not, with a recognition of its original innocence. It is only when we perceive the ego, not as a malevolent force, but as an ancient aspect of our psyche that we can truly find peace with it. Once we see that the ego is innocent, we no longer need to wage a holy war against it; we see it instead as an ancient and primitive part of ourselves.
